Sill Farms implements ScoringAg traceability system

Imagine having the complete history of a piece of produce, the field from which it was picked, the day it was harvested, where it was packaged where it's been, right on the packaging.  If it sounds like science fiction, it shouldn't.  ScoringAg, a company based out of Bradenton, Florida, provides this very technology for growers' produce traceability efforts.

Sill Farms, which is run by Calvin and Brody Sill, has recently implemented ScoringAg's record-keeping database and real-time labeling system for their operations in Florida and Pennsylvania.  They grow red and white Irish potatoes which they distribute up along the East coast, Midwest and into Canada.

Their new system from ScoringAg provides real time labeling and record-keeping which records site-specific location crop data such as water tests, soil tests, site history, weather and pesticide use.  In addition to recording land prep, the system also traces GAP's, harvesting, packing, transportation, preventive sanitation practices and storage of crops.  In fact, ScoringAg's system ties GPS information of the land on which crops are grown and directly to the labeled packaged product which leaves the packing shed.

In addition to allowing Sill Farms to better track their produce from land prep to shipping of product, the ScoringAg database system also puts their traceability efforts in line with federal FDA/FSMA requirements which mandate data storage of crop information for two years in case of a recall.
